Colombianite Tektite, Valle del Cauca, Colombia

No Tektite collection is complete without Colombianite or Piedra Rayo as its known by the Muisca People of Colombia where it is found. It means Stone of Light and is revered for its properties to promote peace, understanding, compassion and love. It is one of the most controversial Tektites on the planet. The controversy is that some researchers postulate that this is a very ancient Tektite formed when a meteorite crashed down super heating the sand when it came and the sand melted then cooled creating these hardened pebbles that were naturally tumbled in the river. The other theory is that this is actually ancient glass that was either created by intelligent life loooong before humans invented glass or humans even existed or it is created by some sort of unknown volcanic or hydrothermal process like obsidian. The recent data shows its a Tektite.
